Filtering Tips :
| Filtering restricts which results can appear. Use it to eliminate the results you don't want. Activate the filter by clicking the check box to the left of it. Without that box checked, the filter will not be applied. |
| The first selection box is for what you want to filter. What criterion will you use to tell which results are good and which are bad? |
The second selection box is for your operator.
The Operators:
= When using the equals operator, the field specified in the first box must exactly equal the value of the third box. Note: The values for the quality and content ratings are not stored as integers, they have decimal places. Therefore, filtering using the equals operator on one of those fields will yeild few if any results. Instead, use less than or greater than operators and sort by the same feild.
> When using the greater than operator, the field specified in the first box must be greater than the value you enter in the third box. Naturally, this only makes sense when using a numeric field like content rating, quality rating, or times viewed.
< The less than operator is the opposite of the greater than operator described previously, though it still only works with numeric fields.
includes The includes operator forces the field specified in the first box to include the text you supply in the third box. You can use wildcard charachters in the text you supply: '%' matches any number of charachters (even 0), '_' matches only 1 charachter. So, 'author includes o%un' will bring up ocalhoun, coruner, conun and onun, while 'author includes o_un' will bring up only onun and conun. This operator does not work for numeric fields.
is not The is not operator is the opposite of the equals operator. Use the is not operator if you have a specific type of result you want to exclude.

| The third box is for your text. This can be a number or a word or name depending on what you have set the other boxes to.Too restrictive a filter can cause you to have no results at all. If this happens, make your filter less restrictive (and check the spelling of any text you supplied) to get better results. |
Advanced Filtering Tips :
| When using more than one filter, 'or' takes precedence over 'and'. So, 'a and b and c or x and y' will bring up anything that is a,b, and c or anything that is x and y. It will not bring up anything that is a,b,y and c or x. Also note that 'or' is the logical or, so if you want x or y, and something is x and y, it will still show up. If you want the exclusive or, you have to do something like this:'x and not y or y and not x'. |
| You still need to use the check boxes to the left of the filters for each filter you want to apply. Filters that are checked to apply, but are blank should not effect anything, but I'm not sure about that. |
